There is a successful farming enterprise on the estate and during your explorations you will discover lowland and hill sheep, the rugged-looking and typically Scottish ‘Highland’ cattle on the hills, as well as a prized herd of ‘Aberdeen Angus’ cattle down near the beach.
Spread over 5,000 acres, Killean Estate encompasses over 1 mile of Argyll coastline and rises gradually to about 1,200 feet at its highest point, from where there are many vantage points enjoying panoramic views over the sea to the highlands and islands of Scotland beyond. The landscape is dramatically varied with tropical gardens, farmland, forests, and the heather clad Killean Hill with rocky outcrops and tranquil hill lochs.
Be sure to be back for the sunsets...
On a clear evening you will see Donegal in Northern Ireland, nearly 80 miles away and the view of the sun laying down behind the islands of Gigha and Jura is something not to be missed!
